In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds and fry until they crackle. 2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute. 3. Add the chicken pieces and fry until they are browned on all sides. 4. Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, carom seeds, and salt and mix well. 5. Add the yogurt and water and bring to a boil. 6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes. 7. Add the jaggery and tamarind paste and mix well. 8. Continue to simmer for 10 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through. 9. Serve hot with rice or chapatis.
